St Bridget’s Church, Moresby

Moresby tower

This delightful little Georgian church was chosen by the Carlisle Diocesan Guild of Church bellringers to receive a new set of 8 bells, cast by Taylor Bells of Loughborough in 2017, as an exchange for the 8 bells removed from St John’s Cleator Moor after the church was closed.

It sits in a prominent position on cliffs high above the Irish Sea, overlooking the remains of a Roman Fort.

The only nearby buildings are the historic Moresby Hall, with its tunnels and ghosts, which dates back to the 16th Century! Now a comfortable Country Guest house, it has an interesting history.
